Drop a landscape clip — MP4 or WebM work best.
Pick 9:16, 4:5 or 1:1 and a blurred, black or white background.
The clip plays through once while it is re-recorded, then you download it.
The whole frame stays visible, centered over the background.
A softened copy of your video fills the empty space.
The audio is recorded along with the picture.
No server upload, no account.
Cropping a 16:9 video to 9:16 throws away about two thirds of the picture. Fitting the full frame inside a vertical canvas keeps everything visible. A softened copy of the same video behind it fills the empty space so the result does not look like a letterboxed clip.
9:16 (1080×1920 or 720×1280) is the standard for Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. 4:5 uses more screen space in the Instagram feed than a square. 1:1 is a safe choice for feeds and for sharing in messaging apps.
The blurred background suits most footage. Black or white backgrounds work for clean, minimal looks or when your video already has strong colors that clash with its own blur.
Vertical apps cover the top and bottom of the screen with buttons and captions. A landscape clip centered in the frame leaves plenty of room for text above and below it.
The browser plays your video once and records it onto a vertical canvas, with the sound. That is why export takes about as long as the clip, and why the result is a WebM file. Keep the tab open until it finishes. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
