How it works

Make an animation in three steps

1

Add your video

Drag a clip onto the box or click to browse. It loads right away — no server upload.

2

Set the range & size

Choose the start and end, the frame rate and the output width. Keep it short for a small file.

3

Export

Create a looping GIF or a lighter animated WebP and download it. Make as many as you like.

Why use it

Small, shareable loops

GIF or WebP

Classic GIF for universal support, or animated WebP for the same loop at a fraction of the size.

You control the size

Trim the range, lower the frame rate or drop the width to keep the file small and snappy.

Clean loops

Loop forever or play once — great for reactions, demos, previews and profile clips.

100% private

Everything is rendered on your device — your footage never touches a server.

Good to know

Keeping the file small

A GIF stores every frame as a full image with a limited palette, which is why long or large GIFs balloon in size. This tool grabs frames from the range you pick, scales them to your chosen width, and encodes them locally — so you stay in control of the trade-off between smoothness and file size.

Three levers that shrink the file

The biggest wins come from a shorter range, a lower frame rate (8–12 fps looks fine for most clips) and a smaller width. Halving the width roughly quarters the file.

When to choose animated WebP

Animated WebP supports far more colors and compresses much better than GIF — often 50–90% smaller for the same loop. Use it wherever it’s supported (every modern browser); keep GIF for places that only accept GIF, like some older chat apps.

Common uses

MP4 to GIF, and other ways people use this tool

Convert MP4 to GIF

Pick a short range of an MP4, choose a frame rate and width, and export. Shorter clips and fewer frames per second keep the GIF small enough for chat apps and email.

Turn a screen recording into a GIF

Record a quick walkthrough, trim it to the few seconds that matter and export a looping GIF for docs, tickets or a README. If the file is large, lower the width first — it saves more than lowering the frame rate.

GIF or animated WebP?

GIF works everywhere. Animated WebP is usually much smaller at the same quality and plays in all modern browsers, so use it for your own website and keep GIF for places that only accept GIFs.

Any video your browser can play

The clip is decoded by your browser, so MP4 and WebM work almost everywhere. Other formats such as MOV depend on the browser — if a file will not play in a normal browser tab, it will not load here either.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the converter free?
Yes — completely free, no account and no watermarks. It’s part of Mokivo.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Frames are captured and encoded locally in your browser, so your footage never leaves your device.
How long can the clip be?
There’s no hard limit, but GIFs get large fast — a few seconds at 8–15 fps is the sweet spot. Use animated WebP for longer loops.
GIF or animated WebP — which should I pick?
WebP is far smaller and looks better, so prefer it where it’s supported. Choose GIF for maximum compatibility.
Does it include sound?
No — GIF and WebP are silent image formats by design. For a clip with audio, use Trim & Crop or the Compressor.
