How it works

Convert audio in three steps

1

Add your file

Drag an audio file onto the box above or click to browse. It’s decoded right away in your browser — no waiting on an upload.

2

Pick format & quality

Choose MP3 or WAV, set the bitrate, and switch to mono if you want a smaller file. Every choice re-encodes from the original.

3

Download

Preview the result in the built-in player, then download. Convert as many files as you like — it’s completely free.

Why use it

Built for creators who care about their files

100% private

Your audio never touches a server. Decoding and encoding happen on your own device, so sensitive recordings stay yours.

No queue

There’s no upload bar and no processing queue. Files convert as fast as your machine can encode them.

Control the quality

Dial in the exact MP3 bitrate — from lean 128 kbps to full 320 kbps — or export lossless WAV for editing.

No logins needed

No file caps, no watermarks, no account. Use it as often as you need, on desktop or mobile.

Formats

Which audio format should you use?

The converter reads all the common formats below and exports to MP3 or WAV — the two that play everywhere.

Format
Type
Best for
MP3
Lossy
Sharing, podcasts, music — small files that play on almost any device.
WAV
Lossless
Editing and mastering — full quality, large files, universal support.
AAC / M4A
Lossy
Apple devices and streaming — better quality than MP3 at the same size.
FLAC
Lossless
Archiving — the same quality as WAV at about half the size.
OGG
Lossy
Open-source projects, games and web audio.
Good to know

Converting audio, the private way

Most online converters ask you to upload your file to a server, wait in a queue, and trust that the file is deleted afterwards. This one works differently. It uses the browser’s built-in Web Audio API to decode your file and re-encode it right on your device — the audio data never leaves the page.

MP3 vs WAV — which do I pick?

Choose MP3 when you want a small, shareable file: a good default is 192 kbps, while 320 kbps is near-transparent for music. Choose WAV when you need uncompressed audio for further editing, or when a tool or platform specifically asks for it. Note that converting a lossy file (like an MP3) to WAV won’t restore quality that was already lost — it just stops any further compression.

When should I switch to mono?

Mono roughly halves the file size and is well suited to voice — podcasts, voiceovers, interviews and audiobooks. Keep stereo for music and anything with a spatial mix.

Common uses

Convert audio files without installing anything

WAV to MP3

Turn large WAV recordings into small MP3 files for sharing. Pick a bitrate — 128 kbps is fine for speech, 192 kbps or more for music.

M4A, AAC, FLAC or OGG to MP3 or WAV

If your browser can play the file, it can be converted. Output is MP3 or WAV, which play on almost every device and platform.

Make a voice recording mono

Switch to mono to roughly halve the size of a voice memo or podcast draft with little audible difference.

Quality note

Converting from one lossy format to another cannot restore lost detail, so start from the best source you have.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the audio converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no account, no file limits and no watermarks. It’s part of Mokivo, a suite of browser-based tools for creators.
Are my files uploaded to any server?
No. Everything happens locally in your browser using the Web Audio API. Your files are never sent to a server, which keeps sensitive recordings private and makes conversion instant.
What formats can I convert from and to?
You can read MP3, WAV, AAC, M4A, FLAC, OGG and Opus (support depends on your browser’s built-in codecs). Output is MP3 or WAV — the two formats that play on virtually every device and platform.
Is there a file-size limit?
There’s no hard limit — but because conversion runs on your own device, very large files use more memory and take a little longer. Most songs and podcast episodes convert in a few seconds.
Will converting improve the audio quality?
Converting can’t add back detail that was already removed by a previous lossy compression. Going from MP3 to WAV, for example, simply stops further loss — it doesn’t restore the original. For the best result, always start from the highest-quality source you have.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It runs in any modern mobile browser. For the widest codec support and fastest encoding, a desktop version of Chrome or Edge works best.
