Drop in a photo and caption and see it where followers will: the phone feed, your profile grid, explore and the desktop pop-up — next to other posts, in light and dark mode.
Drop up to three images, or try a sample. Give each one its own caption to test the wording as well.
Username, location, likes, comments and a bio make the preview feel real. Pick the post shape and the profile tile style.
Flip between the phone feed, profile grid, explore, desktop feed and the post pop-up, then try dark mode and the squint test.
See the same photo in the feed, on your profile grid and in explore, where it is cropped differently.
A side-by-side of the 4:5, square, landscape, 3:4 grid and 9:16 crops so nothing important gets cut off.
Place up to three photos next to each other on a profile grid to check that colours and subjects flow together.
Blur the page or remove the colour to check the photo still stands out when it is small.
In the feed, photos are shown between a tall 4:5 portrait and a wide 1.91:1 landscape. A square is fine too. Anything taller than 4:5 or wider than 1.91:1 is cropped, and this tool warns you when your image falls outside that range.
Your grid shows a centred crop of each post, currently 3:4 on the profile (older accounts and screenshots show 1:1). A 4:5 portrait loses a little at the sides, and a square loses more at the top and bottom, so keep the subject in the middle. Turn on the grid guide to see exactly what is cut.
Vertical 9:16 pictures fill Reels and Stories, but on your profile grid they are cropped to 3:4. Put faces and text in the middle third of a Reels cover.
Instagram recommends 1080 pixels wide. Smaller pictures are enlarged and look soft; bigger ones are reduced. The tool flags images below 1080 wide.
Only the first line or two of a caption show before the “more” link, so put the hook first. Captions can be long (up to 2,200 characters), but most people never tap “more”.
The layouts are close look-alikes built for testing. Instagram changes its design often and shows posts differently in the app, on the web and in different countries, so use the preview as a guide. The other posts and accounts are invented.
